Pruning can be required to remove dead and dying branches to maintain health and safety. This pruning type is referred to as cleaning. Research has now documented that thinning, the removal of live branches to reduce density, significantly reduces wind resistance and subsequent storm damage. Thinning should only be done on trees where the crown is "too dense". Thinning should be concentrated on the outer portions of the canopy, leaving as many branches on the interior crown as possible. In some instances, the crown or individual branches require reduction in length to improve the form and shape of the plant, to eliminate interference with objects and structures, and to compensate for structural weaknesses. Lower branches may require pruning for similar reasons. This process, known as raising, also can be used to increase the amount of light for turf grass and ground covers beneath the crown of a tree.
We always encourage our tree surgery clients in kent to retain trees wherever possible, but sometimes they have to be removed because either they are unsuitable for their space, or they pose a threat to surrounding buildings or for a variety of different reasons. Due to the lack of open space, tree felling in kent can be more challenging and it is not often possible to fell a tree in one piece.
In tight spaces such as next to houses and garden items it is usually necessary to dismantle trees in order to remove them. In order to dismantle a tree, professional Kent tree surgeons use ropes and lowering devices to manage and control each piece of the tree to make use of the available space. This is called Sectional Felling.
Stump grinding is the arborist process of removing a leftover area of the tree trunk. When a tree is cut down, the leftover area (the stump) protrudes from the ground.
A stump grinder is the most effective way of removing this stump. To grind the stump out, a large powered cutting disc is lowered onto the leftover tree trunk. This will break down the tree stump and roots into small chunks. Progressively, this is done until the required level is reached.
